The Visitor

The Visitor is a drum machine for legendary Detroit Techno DJ, producer and composer Jeff Mills. It was designed by Jeff Mills and Yuri Suzuki to look like an alien device that arrived from outer space.

We dissected one of Jeff's original Roland TR909 (an incredibly precious drum machine) and refitted it into the chassis, swapping all of the controls with new ones. Knobs and buttons were put on shielded fly-leads so that they can be mounted on the front face of The Visitor, completely hiding any reference to the original drum machine.

The Visitor was unveiled in an exhibition in Tokyo and has travelled around the world, frequently appearing in Jeff's performances.
